Celso Perez

Celso Perez, Peter and Patricia Gruber Fellow in Global Justice, works on issues related to LGBT rights and migration in Latin America. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Celso worked as a law student intern at the Yale Law School Worker and Immigrant Rights Advocacy Clinic, where he co-argued a case at the Connecticut Supreme Court and represented clients applying for immigration relief. He was also a law student intern at the Transnational Development Clinic, where he co-authored a report on the 2010 Haitian cholera epidemic and United Nations responsibility for the outbreak. In a previous role as a summer fellow at Human Rights Watch, he assisted with advocacy efforts at the Holy See, and wrote an extensive background memo on violence and discrimination faced by LGBT people in the Americas. Celso holds a J.D. degree from Yale Law School and a B.Sc. from Boston College. He is fluent in English and Spanish, and is proficient in Portuguese.
