Fellow, Environment and Human Rights

Vuyisile H Ncube is the 2020-2021 Alan R. and Barbara D. Finberg Fellow in Human Rights Watch’s Environment & Human Rights Division. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Vuyisile worked at the Legal Resources Centre and the Centre for Environmental Rights on strategic litigation around land and housing rights for marginalized communities and upholding mining-affected communities’ right to a healthy environment.  She was also a postgraduate researcher for the South African Research Chair in Mineral Law in Africa, and she is passionate about socio-economic and environmental justice issues.  

Vuyisile is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and holds an LLB and an LLM (with distinction) from the University of Cape Town.
