Human Rights Watch survey responses to the question, “During this academic year (or during your most recent year of junior high/high school), have you heard students or teachers make insults, negative comments, or jokes about LGBT people?” 29 percent of respondents had heard insults from teachers; 86 percent had heard insults from students or teachers.
