Tyler Mattiace is an Americas researcher at Human Rights Watch, primarily covering Mexico. Tyler advocates for rights-respecting immigration and asylum policies in the Americas; well-functioning police forces and justice institutions that can solve crimes without committing abuses; effective policies to protect journalists and human rights defenders; and efforts to resolve the disappearance crisis.

Tyler began his career conducting research on equity in the international trade system. He has lived in Mexico City for nearly a decade, where he previously worked in political risk analysis before joining Human Rights Watch in 2019. He holds a master's degree in International Development from the London School of Economics and an undergraduate degree in International Relations from the University of St Andrews, Scotland. He speaks English and Spanish.
