Corrections to our publications

Human Rights Watch strives to maintain the highest level of accuracy in our reporting. This includes a commitment to correcting errors or clarifying facts that appear in our publications in a timely fashion. Corrections appear both on this dedicated webpage and at the bottom of the publication that contained the error.

We cannot reply individually to all corrections requests, but all such requests that specify the exact nature of the alleged inaccuracy and the publication (title, page number / web address and date) in which it appeared will be reviewed. If you believe you have found an inaccuracy in our materials, please contact us.

Errors contained in social media posts under Human Rights Watch and staff accounts will also be corrected in a prompt and transparent manner.

Recent Corrections

  • We corrected this press release to add the words armed group to the Libyan National Army (LNA).

  • The activists appearing in the video are from Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Gambia, Lebanon, Uganda, and the United States. The news release was updated to remove Kenya from the list and add Uganda.

  • The Maldives government, on October 10, 2019, “temporarily” shut down the Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN). The name of the organization was misstated in an earlier version of this news release.

  • The updated version of this press release has been corrected to state that the individual’s name is Jock Palfreeman.

  • An earlier version of this reported, "On August 18, a new teacher allegedly made racist taunts at Papuan students at a public high school in Wamena." The date has now been corrected to reflect the events occured on September 18, 2019. 

  • The HRC election date was changed by one day, from October 16 to October 17; the press release has been updated to reflect that fact.

  • The updated version of this press release states the correct date of the ministerial meeting, to take place on September 26, 2019.

  • The previous version incorrectly described details of  the officers’ departure from the home of Efrain Romero.

  • This news release has been amended to clarify the numbers of children detained by moving up information on how many children have been released since 2013. The subheading of the news release was also changed to emphasize the information.

  • We have amended the online version of this report to clarify that the unofficial employment rate in Georgia increased from 13.57 percent in 2006 to 17.22 percent in 2012, according to the World Bank.
