Luciana is a researcher in the Environment and Human Rights Division. She joined Human Rights Watch in 2017 as Finberg Fellow, and has since conducted fieldwork in Brazil, Canada, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador and Nicaragua. Her research and advocacy have dealt with violent repression of dissent, judicial harassment and violence against environmental defenders, workers’ exposure to toxics, water contamination and labor rights violations in the context of oil exploration, mining, illegal logging and industrial agriculture. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, Luciana was Americas research fellow at Front Line Defenders, providing emergency support to human rights defenders at risk in the region. She is a graduate of the United Nations University for Peace, King’s College London, and the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (SciencesPo). She speaks English, French, and Spanish.
